Ugādi/Yugadi युगादि ఉగాది, गुढी पाडवा: is the Lunar New Year Day for the people of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana states in India. It is a festivity observed in these regions on the first day of the Hindu lunisolar calendar month of Chaitra. The name Yugadi or Ugadi is derived from the Sanskrit words yuga (age) and adi (beginning) meaning the beginning of a new age. It falls on Chaitra Shudhdha Paadyami or the first day of the bright half of the Indian month of Chaitra.
